About Us
Bowmar Sports, previously known as Martin Kilpatrick Company, was founded in 1960 by Bowie Martin and Norman Kilpatrick, who were both passionate table tennis players at the East Carolina University table tennis club. The company sold leading table tennis brands to clubs and sporting goods stores across the USA. In 1962, Melba Martin, Bowie’s wife and fellow table tennis player, acquired Norman’s share of the company. Over time, the company focused on two product lines: the Butterfly professional line and the Martin Kilpatrick recreational line. In 1995, Martin Kilpatrick acquired the Butterfly distributorship of Canada, and in 2005, it became Butterfly North America. To promote the Butterfly community of clubs, pro shops, coaches, players, tournaments, and fans, Butterfly North America launched the WAB "We Are Butterfly" program in 2013. In 2016, Butterfly North America rebranded as Bowmar Sports. Bowmar Sports strives to provide athletes with top-quality table tennis equipment and to promote healthy physical activity for everyone in the community.
